Mad-Eye Moody

Another example of the exquisite agony of a DAK Girls cache. I found this cache quite some time ago, but didn’t want to post the pictures while the cache was active, so as not to spoil the fun for others. The cache has been ‘archived’, so I think it’s OK to share these pictures, along with a description of the cache.

The cache was under a bridge near Torrey Pines State Beach.

When I got there, it took me a while to spot the cache. Please allow me to point it out to you.

Here’s a closer picture.

It’s a gallon milk jug, with a Geocaching.com sticker, on a ledge, about 15 feet above the ground! OK, I found it, now what? It doesn’t count as a “find” until I sign the log book.

The description on the cache page said that everything I needed to get the cache was in the immediate area. It also said I would need “strong arms, good balance, and a tad of persistence” to get the cache. Surely they weren’t saying I should try to climb up there!

So I started looking around. After about 5 minutes, I saw something that looked a little off. Some PVC in a rusted-out pipe.

I climbed up the bank, pulled it out, and saw that there was some bent wire attached to one end – just the tool I needed to hook the cache and lower it to the ground!

Inside the jug was the logbook and a note asking me to replace the jug and tool as found. I got the cache back on the ledge (which was the hardest part of the procedure) and put the tool back in its nesting place.

Mind you, I had to do all of this without being seen by anyone who happened to be walking by.

In all, a wonderful experience, thanks to those bright lights in the firmament of geocaching, the DAK Girls!

Wow, that’s a mean one! I’ve seen some nasties, and that one would be high on the list. Check out the spider geocache that we are going to set loose.

Scary stuff!
