We may have found the winner of the “Longest Blog Post Title on This Site” award.
WWFM stands for World-Wide Flash Mob, the ‘III’ means this was the third in San Diego County, and ‘Coronado Island’ means…well, I’ll leave that as an exercise for the reader.
A ‘Flash Mob’ is a group of people that converges on an area, does something, then disappears, leaving onlookers to wonder what just happened. In this case, the ’something’ was a geocache event. Apparently, there were 167 of these events going on today.
Rick and I met in Coronado a few hours before the event to grab some caches. About half an hour before the event began, we went to a spot not too far from ground zero.

As we were waiting, I heard a siren and looked up to see that, across the bay, a couple of fireboats were running a drill.
At the appointed time, everyone converged at the end of the pier to sign the logbook (which, you may remember, is a prerequisite to getting credit for finding the cache).

That’s me in the green shirt on the right, shaking Duncan’s hand. The colorful fellow behind me is Fattboy.
Four minutes later, we moved to a spot about 100 feet away for a group photo (not taken by me) and refreshments (by ‘refreshments’, of course, I mean a Hershey’s Kiss). I’m told the event was attended by 131 people.

Six minutes later, we moved to a spot about 500 feet away for a raffle, where some nice prizes were given out, including the right to claim “First to Find’ for the event.
Five minutes later, we left the area.
It was quite fun, and I finally got to meet Josh, whose real name is Hick@Heart. There’s a link to his geo-blog over on the right side of your screen. You should check it out. Meeting good people is the best part of geocaching…after being First to Find, of course.

Looks like a great day for it. I missed this last Flash Mob. The weather wasn’t that great and I was just too tired to trek the 50 miles to the nearest location.
Nicely done! We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather. Congrats on the long post, careful you might set new expectations of yourself! It was nice to finally meet you as well. And yes, my real name is Hick@Heart.

Hi There,
Sounds like great fun and camaraderie! Would you have an interest in speaking at my Kiwanis Club General Session some time soon?
